Task 2: Proposal

Planning - individual work (Grading criteria 2)

Plan and develop a multi camera programme idea, producing a detailed proposal that will include the content listed below.

Programme format (e.g. studio production) and initial production scenario (e.g. game show)

I have decided to do a game show with a studio production format. It will also be a multiple camera production for a game show similar to ‘a question of sport’. I have been inspired by the show ‘a question of sport’ this is a BBC quiz show, it is currently recorded at MediaCityUK in Salford Quays. It involves two teams of sports stars answering questions on their own and other sports. Each team has a captain and every week they are joined by two sports stars answering questions and carrying out tasks to win points. The show format is a Panel Game. I have decided to make a similar game show but instead of having two teams there are three because of the amount of people in my class. They will then take turns to answer questions not just on sport but on TV shows, food, magazines and fashion. There will also be activities like if a person gets an answer correct you get to throw a chance to get an extra point by throwing an object in an area.

The first thing to do is go look at the place where we're filming and see how big it is, the TV studio should be a well enough size to do the show. I will need to see where we could put the camera for better coverage of the show, and get familiar with the area, so we know where the entrance and exits are beforehand. As the intended audience is from 15 to 60 year olds so the set needs to appeal to that audience range so I will need to focus on things like the background and the lighting and what colour lights to focus on. The background of my show will be changing as the show goes on, it will change due to the subjects chosen e.g. if football is chosen then there will be a grassy background or if a news genre is chosen then there will be a newspaper in the back. Since my show was influenced by the show ‘a question of sport’ it will have the same layout, with the presenter in the middle and the contestants on each side. This is so the layout is clear and simple for the viewers at home to follow along. If the layout is all over the place then following along will be difficult. If a clear image of how the set is set out is shown to the audience then the viewers at home will build an image in their head and therefore find it easier to follow along.

Job roles in a multicamera prod

Job roles in a Multi-camera production

Director:
A director is the individual that is in charge of the entire production, they tell people what to do as they have the script to the production. They have are in charge of things like telling when the vision mixer to cut and when for sound effects or music can come on. They can set the pace of the entire production with the pace of cuts and sound effects.

Floor Manager:

Tuesday, 4 February 2014

We watched what we recorded and it was pretty good for a first proper attempt. The camera work was not bad but it lacked professionalism. There was too much headspace when filming but that was dealt with by the director doing his job really well. We didn't have much to work with when we were practicing because there was camera missing and that was my role, being the third cameraman. We had to get used to most of the equipment because it was new to most of the people in the class but others had some experience and helped those that needed help. During this visit to the studio we were being helped by a technician, he taught us the basics of how the cameras work, zooming in and out etc. Focusing on the talent quickly so when the shot is cut to the camera that was focusing it would look smooth. The technician also showed us what the floor manager does, floor managers ensure that sets, props and technical equipment are safe, ready to use and in the right position prior to filming. They also have the coordinating role, acting as the link between the director and the many people involved in a production. It is the floor manager's responsibility to pass on cues to presenters and guests to ensure timings are met and the broadcast goes smoothly, the technician explained this to us but mostly to the floor manager but we paid attention so that if the floor manager needed assistance there will be help.
